With the growing popularity or organic and local food, I think we'll continue to see growth in the popularity of backyard farms, aka gardens.
Here's a picture of my parents' garden from last year:
They are growing tomatoes in this picture. While tomatoes remain a popular item to grow (maybe because they don't transport well?), they do take up a lot of room on the land. If backyard farms continue to gain in popularity, I'd expect that the farmers who tend them find ways to maximize their output on smaller plots of land.
